Court Admissions & Professional Associations

Shanen R. Prout was admitted to the State Bar of California in 2005.  He is licensed to practice law before the following courts:

  • All California state courts (Cal. State Bar no. 236137)
  • U.S. District Court for the Central District of California
  • U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California
  • U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.

Mr. Prout is a long-time, active member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Entertainment Law & Intellectual Property and Litigation Sections.  Mr. Prout is also a Panel Attorney for California Lawyers for the Arts, a non-profit association that provides artists, arts organizations, and entertainment industry workers with affordable access to legal and business information and services.  Mr. Prout was an active member for years in the State Bar of California’s Litigation and Business Law Sections, until the State Bar disbanded those sections at the end of 2017.  The sections have been transferred to a new independent organization called California Lawyers Association (CLA).

Work Experience

Before opening the Law Office of Shanen R. Prout in late 2008, Mr. Prout was a Litigation Associate Attorney with Ropers, Majeski, Kohn & Bentley, PC in Los Angeles, California, where he represented companies and individuals before state and federal courts in business, partnership, employment, trademark, copyright, and products liability lawsuits involving multi-million dollar demands, dozens of witnesses, and large amounts of evidence.

Pro Bono & Volunteer Work

Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project (2012).  Represented a Sudanese family in a political asylum case before the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Succeeded in repatriating my clients to Sweden.

California Lawyers for the Arts (2009-present).  Panel attorney with CLA providing counseling and legal services to members of the arts and entertainment industries.

Pepperdine University School of Law, National Entertainment Law Moot Court (2015-present).  Volunteer judge of moot court competition.

Los Angeles County Bar Association Domestic Violence Legal Services Project (2018-present).  Provide legal counseling to victims of domestic violence and assist them in obtaining restraining orders.

Interests

Mr. Prout has been a lifelong Californian and is a multi-generational Angeleno, born and raised in Pasadena.  He enjoys helping businesses establish and maintain a healthy, profitable presence in California and beyond.  When not working, Mr. Prout enjoys spending time with family and friends; traveling; reading literary, political, legal, economic and popular culture material; listening to many genres of music and attending live concerts; theater; visiting art galleries and museums; volunteering; skiing; hiking; jogging; playing tennis; following professional and college sports; and riding his bike.
